Dollar Store Christmas DIYs that Look Expensive

Today, I’m sharing five simple, fast and budget-friendly Christmas DIYs and decorations that you can easily create using items from Dollar Tree and The Dollar Store. What better way to celebrate than by sprucing up your home with festive décor? Let’s get crafting!

DIY Christmas Planter on a Budget

This stunning Christmas planter is so easy to make and it costs about $10 to make (even though it looks like you spent way more!)

Materials:

  • A garden pot (recycled from your garden is perfect)
  • A yogurt container (or floral foam to raise the center)
  • Lantern (Dollarama lantern for $4)
  • Tree clippings (from your yard or free clippings from a Christmas tree vendor)
  • Wooden skewers
  • Dollar store picks or ornaments

Instructions:

  1. Start with a garden pot and place a yogurt container upside down in the middle to raise the center.
  2. Hot glue a lantern to the top of the container to make it secure.
  3. Add tree clippings around the container, placing larger ones in the back and smaller ones in the front for balance.
  4. Use wooden skewers to attach dollar store picks or ornaments for extra decoration.
  5. Finish off with a bow made from leftover ribbon or floral mesh.

2. Chalkboard Countdown to Christmas

This next Christmas DIY is a quick and easy project that will help you count down the days until Christmas in style.

Materials:

  • Dollar store chalkboard clipboards
  • Picture frame with a stand
  • Pinecones and garland (optional for decoration)
  • Scrapbooking paper or printed text
  • Number stickers (Dollar Tree)

Instructions:

  1. Remove the clip from the picture frame if you want a clean background.
  2. Cut scrapbooking paper or print out a “Days Until Christmas” sign and hot glue it onto the frame.
  3. Attach the chalkboard clipboards to the frame using hot glue.
  4. Use number stickers to update the countdown each day.

This DIY is functional and decorative, helping your family get excited as Christmas approaches!

3. Berry Wreath 

This is one of those Christmas DIYs that looks professionally made but is super affordable and easy to do at home!

Materials:

  • Wire wreath form
  • Dollar store garland
  • Berry garlands
  • Ornaments
  • Hot glue gun and wire cutters

Instructions:

  1. Wrap the garland around the wire wreath form, securing it tightly.
  2. Cut up the berry garland into smaller picks to make the wreath fuller.
  3. Hot glue everything in place, spreading out the berries and pinecones evenly.
  4. Add ornaments like snowflakes or reindeer to give it a festive touch.

In just a few steps, you’ll have a wreath that costs only $12 but looks much more expensive!

4. Light-Up Gift Box Decoration

Add a magical touch to your outdoor or indoor space with this light-up gift box DIY. It’s super easy and looks stunning at night.

Materials:

  • Fabric mesh (Dollar store)
  • Dowels or skewers
  • Ribbon
  • Battery-powered fairy lights

Instructions:

  1. Hot glue dowels together to form a cube.
  2. Wrap the fabric mesh around the cube, leaving one side open for the lights.
  3. Secure the fabric with hot glue, tightening it to look like a wrapped gift.
  4. Wrap ribbon around the cube, just like you would with a present.
  5. Add a bow and place the fairy lights inside.

This light-up present adds a festive glow to your home, perfect for Christmas displays.

5. DIY Napkin Rings and Tablescape

Creating a beautiful Christmas tablescape doesn’t have to break the bank. Here’s how to make chic napkin rings and set up a festive table using only dollar store items.

Materials:

  • Satin pillowcases (Dollar Tree)
  • Ribbon (Dollar store)
  • Ornaments for embellishment
  • Iron-on hem tape

Instructions:

  1. Cut the pillowcase into four pieces to make fabric napkins.
  2. Use iron-on hem tape to finish the edges of the napkins.
  3. Make napkin rings by cutting dollar store ribbon, folding it into a loop, and hot gluing it.
  4. Add an ornament on top of the napkin ring for decoration.
  5. Set your table with dollar store chargers, plates, and your handmade napkins.

Your holiday table will look amazing, and no one will guess that everything is from the dollar store!
