1. Lantern Planter
Let’s start with a show-stopper! This beautiful planter is so easy to make, and it won’t break the bank. Here’s what you need:
- A pot (I used one from my garden, dirt still included!)
- A yogurt container (or anything to raise the center)
- A lantern from the dollar store
- Tree clippings (grab some free ones at your local Christmas tree lot!)
To assemble, flip the yogurt container upside down and hot glue it into the pot. Then, place your lantern on top of the yogurt container and secure it so it doesn’t topple over. Add tree clippings around the base, and voilà – a stunning outdoor planter for just a few bucks! You can embellish it further with dollar store picks, ornaments, or even a festive bow made from floral mesh.
2. DIY Chalkboard Countdown to Christmas
This next DIY is perfect for counting down the days until Christmas – and it’s super easy to make!
I found these little chalkboard clipboards and a cute picture frame, all from the dollar store. Here’s what I did:
- I removed the clip from the picture frame and cut a backing for it (you can use scrapbook paper or, if you’re like me and handwriting isn’t your thing, print out “Days Until Christmas” on regular paper).
- Then, I hot glued the chalkboard clipboard to the frame and added number stickers for the countdown days. You can also use a chalk pen to update it daily.
- For some added flair, I threw in a couple of pinecones and small garland pieces for a rustic holiday feel.
It’s so cute and functional for your holiday décor, plus it’s totally customizable!
3. Berry Wreath
Who doesn’t love a festive wreath? I made this one for just $12 using a wire wreath form, garland, and berry picks, all from the dollar store.
- First, I wrapped the garland around the wreath form and secured it.
- Then, I cut up the berry garlands into smaller picks (pro tip: this will save you a ton of money!).
- I stuck the berry picks into the wreath and hot-glued them in place to keep everything secure.
- For the final touch, I added some dollar store ornaments and cute white reindeer to give it that extra festive charm.
This wreath looks just as good as the pricey ones, but for a fraction of the cost!
4. Light-Up Gift Box Decoration
This next project is all about creating a glowing gift box for your front porch or indoor display. It’s a fun and whimsical touch that lights up beautifully at night!
Here’s how to make it:
- Using some fabric mesh, dowels or skewers, and string lights, you’ll create a cube frame by gluing the dowels together.
- Once you have your cube, wrap it with the mesh, securing it tightly with hot glue.
- Leave the bottom open to place your lights inside, then wrap the whole thing like a present, complete with a ribbon and bow on top.
It’s such a pretty, glowing accent for your holiday décor, and all the materials are from the dollar store!
5. Holiday Tablescape
Lastly, I created an entire blue and gold holiday tablescape using only items from the dollar store. The star of the show? Napkin rings and cloth napkins made from satin pillowcases!
- I cut the pillowcases into quarters and used iron-on hem tape to create neat edges (and yes, these napkins are totally washable!).
- For the napkin rings, I used some ribbon, made a loop, and glued dollar store ornaments to the top. The wire in the ribbon helps hold the shape, making the napkin rings super sturdy.
- To finish the tablescape, I used Dollar Tree chargers, some pretty teal plates, and added a few extra embellishments to pull the look together.
Everything turned out so beautiful and elegant, and the best part is – everything came from the dollar store!
