Have you ever looked around your home and thought, “I could do more to make this space feel like mine”? I recently had a similar experience when my husband Joe and I considered moving. We almost put in an offer on a new house, but that got me thinking—why was I waiting to make updates to our home for someone else’s benefit? Why not enjoy it ourselves now?
In this post (and in the video), I’ll be sharing easy, practical ways to help you fall back in love with your space. Today, we’re starting with some of the simplest things you can do, and trust me, they’re not overwhelming!
Try a Simple DIY
I know, DIY can feel intimidating, especially if you’re not the crafty type, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. Start small! A quick DIY project can be as simple as putting dollar store flowers in a vase, making a centerpiece, or adding candles to a hurricane glass. Even creating a seasonal wreath can give your space a little refresh.
These small touches are an act of love for your home, and honestly, they make you feel proud of what you’ve done. For example, I made a cute little centerpiece with some items from Dollar Tree. It was fun and gave me a sense of accomplishment. It’s amazing how little things like this can make a big difference!
Tackle Those Small Updates
When I thought about selling our house, the first thing that came to mind was all the little projects I had been putting off—like the chipped paint in our downstairs bathroom. The vanity paint was peeling, the walls were dull, and the whole space just needed a refresh.
The funny thing? I already had all the paint I needed. So, with zero cost, I spent a few hours repainting the walls, the tile, and the vanity. It completely transformed the space! I even treated myself to a new shower curtain and towels for under $50. It’s like I fell in love with our old bathroom all over again.
If you have similar projects in your home that you’ve been putting off? Why not tackle one today and start enjoying the results immediately? They might not even cost you a dime (Bonus!)
Treat Yourself and Your Home
Sometimes we have no problem spending money on takeout or new toys for the kids, but when it comes to buying something small for ourselves—like a decorative pillow or a new comforter—we hesitate. But here’s the thing: Treating yourself to something new for your home, even something small, can make you fall in love with your space a little more.
It doesn’t have to be expensive—a pop of color in the form of a throw pillow, a cozy new blanket, or a stylish centerpiece can make your living room or bedroom feel fresh and inviting. It’s okay to invest a little in your comfort and happiness.
Imagine You’re Selling Your Home
Even if you’re not planning to sell, try imagining that you are. Think about all the things you’d do to make your home more appealing to potential buyers. Why are we waiting to make those updates for someone else’s benefit?
What small things can you do right now to love your home more? Whether it’s fresh paint, new decor, or just rearranging a room, there are plenty of ways to make your space feel fresh and loved. And the best part? You get to enjoy it.
Make it Yours
So, as we head into fall, let’s stop waiting to make changes to our homes for someone else. Whether it’s a simple DIY project, tackling that long-overdue update, or treating yourself to a little something new, now’s the time to start falling in love with your home again.
