I have been MIA this past month when it comes to blogging, and I apologize for that. We are moving to a new home in less than three weeks, so I am slowing unorganizing my home (aka packing) and therefore have NOTHING to blog about!
I thought I would be more excited and happy about moving, but I find myself sad, scared and dreading the entire thing. So much work to do and so much money to spend is feeling overwhelming right now. Add to that the fact that I am leaving my cute little home that I loving decorated and moving into a home that is not my style AT ALL… I’m nervous I’ll have severe buyers remorse!
That being said, I am looking forward to a lot more space. We have a garage at the new house! Yeah baby! My husband has instructed me that it is absolutely off limits, but you know that I won’t be able to resist a little reorganizing!
Packing has also taught me a very valuable lesson. When it comes to kids stuff, LESS IS MORE! I packed up most of the girls toys and books from their rooms, leaving only a handful of their favourites. I also packed more than half of the toy room so far and do you want to know something? The kids don’t even notice! If anything they seem more into the remaining toys than ever. It is easier to keep clean and they have been using their imagination way more.
Here is my theory. Too much stuff is overwhelming for little kids. I think having all the toys out was overstimulating them and now that it is just a few toys, all the kids are much calmer and actually playing more. Insanity, I know. I have decided at the new house to really do toy rotation right from the beginning. I will keep most of the toys in the closet and in storage and every Sunday night switch them out.
I challenge you to give toy rotation a try. Don’t have the closet space? Consider buying an inexpensive pantry or converting a used TV armoire into a toy closet that stays locked! Rotate toys out once a week and see the difference it have on your kids!
