Your home’s first impression

Jun 13, 2012 | Bathroom, Blog

As you may know, I am a bit of a smell-a-phobe.  I have 2 cats, a bunch of daycare kids and a love of ethnic food.  That adds up to a lot of house stink and I’m super insecure about it .  The thing about stink is, you get used to it…fast.  So while you may not notice the mixed fragrance of hockey equipment, cat litter and curry…your guests most certainly will!

Even time I come home I am greeted by a different smell.  It’s the first thing I notice when I walk in the door. Sometimes it’s a nice smell but sometimes it is not.  When my home is smelling not-so-fresh I find my entire mood is affected.  Smell just has a big impact on me and I have been known to spend a half an hour or more sniffing around my home to find that illusive stink.

Have you ever been to someones house and the smell was the first thing you noticed? Wet dog, dirty diapers, rotting garbage.  It doesn’t matter how beautiful a persons house is, the smell is the first impression.

That is probably how I became a candle junkie.  For years I burned scented candles and oils so I could always come home to a fresh, inviting smell.  Unfortunately, I am a huge flake and often left the candles unattended.  My husband put a stop to my candle love a few years ago and I overcompensated with smelly cleaners… I may need help.

Anyhoo. To make a long story short, I stumbled upon Scentsy.  Well, actually, tonnes of people told me I should try it, but I was way too cheap. That stuff is expensive!  Eventually, I caved and decided to give in to the hype.  Holy peter I see what all the fuss is about!  My home smells AMAZING! Because I’m cheap and always looking for a bargain, I decided to join and buy it from myself.  I kinda save 20% that way.

I’m not going to lie, getting started costs a minimum of $60 to $70 to buy a warmer and some bars…and then you’ll be hooked and want more, more more!  They have little ones that plug in for my bathroom and you can get baby smelling ones for nurseries… It’s a bit addicting.  The biggest plus for me (besides the wonderfully lingering but not overpowering smell) is that they are safe for kids… and flakes like me who never blow out candles.  I stuck my hand in the wax to test it and it hardly feels warm! If I forget to turn it off…no big deal, it’s simply a 25 watt light bulb!   No burning down the house or getting sued by a parent for scalding a daycare kid with hot wax! Yeah me! Did I mention my home smells awesome??

If you’d like to check it out, you can visit my website HERE! May I recommend you check out under SPECIALS and COMBINE AND SAVE if you’re planning on buying a warmer and some bars…you’ll save a few bucks.  It is a bit more than regular candles to get started, but they smell WAY better and are very safe.  Once you have the warmer, it’s only $6 a bar which lasts me about a month or just as long as a large traditional candle would normally last me.

My favourite scents are Baked Apple Pie, Home Sweet Home, Sticky Cinnamon Bun, Tigelo and Welcome Home. I like scents that smell warm and kinda like baked goods….Mmmmm. But whatever your preferred smell of choice, flowery, earthy, sugary, fresh….Scentsy has every scent imaginable! So CHECK IT OUT!

Here is my DISCLAIMER: I really just wanted to share this with you because I love it so much.  Please don’t see this as a desperate sales pitch, it is not and I promise not to mention it again! When I find something that gets me excited (which is a lot of stuff apparently) I feel the urge to share, that is all.
