I love the decor items at Michaels, but they are REALLY overpriced. Even with a 40% off coupon, I just can’t justify the price!
I did however break down and purchase this photo holder a few weeks ago, after months of drooling over it and never buying it!
It was on sale for 50% off, but it still was $20 (yes regular price was $40!!). I knew I could make something similar for much, much less! I also wanted it to be bigger! This one only held a 5×7 photo, I wanted it to be able to hold a regular sheet of paper.
I went to Home Depot and purchased a fence post cap for the base ($1.00), a chair leg for the stand ($4.50), a piece of pine board cut 8.5 x 11 ($3.00) and two double ended screw things (.20 each). I drilled a small hole into the base (the fence post cap) and screwed in the chair leg. I then drilled a hole into the top of the leg and used pilers to thread in the double ended screw thingy. I then did the same thing for the wood board and the small cap (from Michaels) on the top!
A quick coat of paint and some distressing (just dry brushing on some dark wax, dark stain or dark brown paint) and I am done!
I am using it to hold the cute sign for my Hot Cocoa Station. You can download the free printable from YELLOW BLISS ROAD!
My favourite part? I added some twine to the sides with a paper stapler and stretched it across the front and stapled on the other side to make it a TABLET HOLDER on the back!!! Now I can crush even more Netflix while cooking or doing the dishes!! It also is perfect for looking up recipes and protecting it from food splatter!
What a great DIY Christmas gift this would make for under $10!!!
