So, it is finally here; Spring! After a long and mucky winter, I can’t wait for warm weather, planting flowers and finally opening the windows again. It is also the perfect time to do a deep down scrub in my home.
Before we get to the deep cleaning part, let’s chat for a second about home maintenance! I mean, we maintain our cars with oil changes and filter and fluid changes, but our home doesn’t have an indicator light that comes on when it’s time to do the basic maintenance it requires.
Spring is the perfect time to do a few, quick home maintenance projects like these:
- Check smoke alarms and test the batteries
- Change your furnace filter
- Change the water filters in your fridge/ice maker
- Check your septic tank (it rains a lot in spring) to make sure it is in good working order
- Clean your eavestroughs
A big part of maintaining your home is also deep cleaning it. Neglecting to clean your home properly can not only reduce the value of your property, but also cost you thousands of dollars replacing or repairing things unnecessarily. Major appliances can last years longer with regular cleaning (mine are almost 20 years old and still look and run like brand new) and flooring and furniture can also last so much longer with regular and deep cleaning.
