How to Make DIY Christmas Photo Ornaments

Dec 12, 2020 | Holiday Home, YouTube

Today, I’m sharing how to make beautiful DIY photo ornaments for your tree or to give as gifts. They’re super easy and affordable! I make these every year using updated family or school photos of the kids, and they make great gifts too—I’ve even been known to steal friends’ photos from Facebook to surprise them with one.

What You’ll Need:

  • Photos: If you don’t have a laser printer, get photocopies or head to your local copy store. I sent mine to Staples, and it was ready in a few hours. Just make sure you use laserjet prints, not inkjet.
  • Floor Polish: It must be a polish with no cleaner. If you can’t find this, rub-on polyurethane works just as well.
  • Photo Ornaments/Bulbs: I love using flat clear ones like these.
  • Glitter: these are my fave craft glitters
  • Scissors, a paintbrush, and a funnel.

How to Make Them:

  1. Cut your photos into circles (use a punch if you have one).
  2. Remove the top of the ornament and pour in some floor polish or polyurethane. Don’t shake it—just swirl it around to coat the inside.
  3. Roll up your photo, pop it inside the ornament, and let it soak in the polish for a few seconds. Use a paintbrush to help smooth it out, especially any bubbles or wrinkles along the edges.
  4. Pour out the excess polish—you don’t want any left inside.
  5. Add your glitter! I recommend lighter glitter (like gold, silver, or light blue) because it won’t obscure the photo. Just shake the ornament until everything is covered.

And there you have it! These make beautiful, personal gifts and are perfect keepsakes for just a few pennies.
