My Simple Fall Cleaning Routine and Checklist

A fall cleaning routine can help you fall in love with your home all over again as the crisp fall air settles in.   It’s the perfect time to refresh! In this blog post, I’m sharing my fall cleaning routine (or if you’re a video person, you can head on over to YouTube watch my fall cleaning routine and get your ) .

It’s not just about having a clean and organized space; it’s about adding small touches to create a cozy, welcoming environment. Let’s get started on some easy tasks that will help you love your space a little more.

Declutter and Rotate Your Closet

I always begin my fall cleaning routine in the bedroom, starting with a closet declutter. One major difference between a tidy home and a messy one is frequent decluttering. Now’s the time to rotate out summer clothes and make room for your fall wardrobe. If you have a larger closet, go through your summer clothes and donate anything you didn’t wear. You’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish in just 10 minutes!

Vacuum Under the Bed

Vacuuming under the bed is one of those tasks we all dread, but it’s a must for fall cleaning. Dust, dog hair, and even some creepy crawlies tend to collect down there. Clear out anything stored under the bed and give it a quick vacuum to freshen up your sleeping space.

Rotate and Clean Your Mattress

One often overlooked task is rotating or flipping your mattress. Doing this will extend its life and improve your sleep. While your bed is stripped, sprinkle the mattress with baking soda, let it sit for 10–15 minutes, and vacuum it up. This will absorb moisture and odors, leaving your bed feeling fresh and clean.

Deep Clean the Kitchen: Focus on the Essentials

In the kitchen, I like to focus on the essentials: the stove, the fridge, and the cabinets. Start by spraying oven cleaner and letting it sit while you tackle other tasks. Don’t forget to clean the fridge coils, either under or behind the fridge, to keep your appliance running efficiently.

After that, wipe down the cabinets, especially above the stove where grease accumulates. Don’t skip the kick plate at the bottom of your cabinets—it’s an often-neglected spot that collects dirt.

Organize the Pantry and Create a Hot Beverage Station

Fall is baking season, so take a few minutes to organize your pantry and toss anything expired. A quick refresh can make all the difference. This is also the perfect time to create a cozy hot beverage station. Whether it’s hot chocolate or tea, having all your favorite ingredients on display makes your kitchen feel even more inviting.

Freshen Up the Living Room & Entry

The living room is where we spend a lot of time during the fall months, so give it a good deep clean. Wipe all surfaces, vacuum the couch cushions, and clean the windows. But beyond cleaning, add a touch of fall decor. I’m not talking about going overboard—just a few small touches, like a pumpkin centerpiece or some new throw pillows, can make the space feel fresh and inviting. If you’re on a budget, print some free fall-themed artwork and pop it into dollar-store frames.

Lastly, let’s not forget the entryway. Summer can leave it looking a bit tired, so now’s the time to freshen things up. Wash the windows, clean out any dead plants, and consider giving your front door a fresh coat of paint. I recently painted mine a beautiful teal, and it made a huge difference! Add some mums and a DIY wreath to make the front of your home feel welcoming for fall.
