Dollar Tree Christmas DIYs and Decorations

Nov 14, 2023 | Holiday Home, YouTube

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a holiday home that looks like you shopped at Pottery Barn.

Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or a total beginner, these DIYs and tips are easy, affordable, and will bring a touch of elegance to your home this holiday season.

Bottle Brush Tree Display

Let’s start with a fun and quick DIY that anyone can do. At Dollar Tree, you can find what I like to call bottle brush trees in various sizes and colors. I picked up a few white and green ones and paired them with a simple sign from the store. By flipping the sign upside down and using it as a base, I was able to hot glue the trees in place to create a stylish winter scene. To give it a more “flocked” look, I added some spray snow—also from the Dollar Tree—and finished it off with a bit of garland and berries. The result? A high-end looking centerpiece in under 10 minutes!

Transforming Dollar Tree Garland

If you’ve ever bought garland from the Dollar Tree, you know it can look a bit…sad. But don’t worry! You can easily give it a makeover by layering it with other items like lights, berry picks, and ornaments. On my mantle, I started with basic Dollar Tree garland, then layered in string lights and added a mix of Dollar Tree picks and decorations. The transformation was incredible! I even revamped an old wreath I found at a yard sale by adding teal ornaments and sprigs of greenery also from Dollar Tree. The key is to build up the garland or wreath with different textures and colors to make it look fuller and more expensive.

The Secret Weapon: Dollar Tree Picks

One of my favorite dollar store items, especially during the holidays, are holiday picks. These little bundles of greenery, berries, pine cones, and even apples cost just $1.25 each, and they look so realistic. I use them everywhere—in wreaths, garlands, and even tucked into my Christmas tree. For about $10 worth of picks, you can create a look that feels high-end and festive, without paying the premium you’d find at other stores. These picks add that perfect pop of color and texture to any holiday display.

Two Christmas Tree Styles on a Budget

Let’s talk about Christmas trees! I’ve got two very different styles to show you, both decorated entirely with Dollar Tree items.

For my pink and gold tree, I started by wrapping Dollar Tree ribbon around the tree and adding floral picks in coordinating colors. I know it sounds strange, but flowers on a Christmas tree look amazing! You can get a bunch of flowers for $1.25, and each bloom acts as an ornament. For this tree, I also used Dollar Tree poinsettias and packs of pink and gold ornaments. The result was a fun, elegant tree that cost under $60 to decorate from top to bottom.

My upstairs tree has a more traditional, rustic feel. I used natural elements like pine cones, berry sprigs, and snowflake ornaments—all from the Dollar Tree. These natural elements, paired with muted red and white tones, gave the tree that classic holiday charm that Pottery Barn is known for. The whole look came together beautifully, and you’d never guess it was decorated on such a tight budget!

Elegant Table Décor for Under $10

Looking for a simple but chic centerpiece for your holiday table? Dollar Tree has beautiful candle holders and tall candles. By grouping three together and adding a festive holiday  pick to each, I created a centerpiece that looks like it belongs in a high-end home décor store, but cost less than $10. It’s perfect for a holiday tablescape that feels both festive and elegant. For another Dollar Tree Centrepiece idea – check out this festive candle and greenery centrepiece.

DIY Tiered Tray: A High-End Look with Dollar Tree Finds

Another favorite project of mine is this tiered tray made entirely from Dollar Tree items. You’ll need a mirror or a plate, four reindeer figurines, and some glue. Arrange the reindeer in a circle and glue them down, then attach a smaller plate or mirror on top. Spray paint the whole thing to match your décor, and you’ve got a beautiful, functional tray to display candles or holiday treats. It’s an easy DIY that looks expensive but costs next to nothing!

Revamping Old Wreaths and Garland

Before you toss out your old holiday decorations, consider giving them a refresh. You can easily transform outdated wreaths or garlands with a few dollar store additions. By adding fresh greenery, berry picks, or pine cones, you can breathe new life into worn-out pieces and make them look brand new. This is a great way to save money and still achieve that high-end look.

Budget-Friendly Tree Makeover

If your tree is looking a little sparse, don’t worry! You can make it look full and lush by using dollar store garland. Wrap it around your tree like ribbon, and add in sprigs of berries or flowers to fill in any gaps. The best part? This hack only requires a few strands, so it’s incredibly affordable while making a big impact.

Tips for Elevating Dollar Store Décor

If you want your Dollar Tree finds to look a little more expensive, here are my top tips:

  • Opt for natural elements like wood tones, pine cones, and greenery.
  • Stick to muted colors like soft reds, whites, and greens for a more sophisticated, high-end feel.
  • Don’t be afraid to repurpose old items—give them new life with fresh decorations!

There’s something so satisfying about taking inexpensive, everyday items and turning them into something beautiful. It’s not just about saving money—it’s about the pride in knowing you’ve created something unique and special for your home.

I hope these ideas inspire you to check out your local Dollar Tree and get creative with your holiday decorating! Looking for even more budget-friendly DIYs, here’s a few more ideas to help you get inspired:
